AFTER A LONG HIATUS….

I am posting after a really really long time. When I decided to start writing again I was determined it must be about getting something that I had lost and got back again. Just like my blog. So here it is....
When I was young
I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played I'd sing along
It made me smile.

Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well.

Where do you find everybody from ABBA, Bon Jovi, Carpenters, Deep Purple, the A to Z of English music, waiting in queue to please you??? The Radio of course… J The one form of media that hasn’t got tired of entertaining millions across the globe for so many years now. Well the proof of the pudding is in the eating ain’t it???

By radio, I definitely do not mean the recent techy versions wherein you get loads of channels and loads of music that its all blasé.. You should wait all day long for just the two hours of music. This was how it was when I was younger and far more enthu and had not much access to a wide range of english music. All India Radio was my panacea. Everyday I would wait for the clock to strike 7pm. A show called “M Time” would start with people calling in and making dedications. An adolescent introverted teenager then, I was too shy to call and make dedications myself though I actually wanted to so badly. J This would go on for an hour and then “Metro music” would follow where our requests by mails would be played. It was really wonderful. The general boredom that most people associate with any media form of the government was absolutely missing. The collection of music was sometimes really astounding.

Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.

When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.

After I had joined college, I was displaced geographically to a place around 150 km from madras. I was completely cut off from my beloved evening recreation. It actually saddened me even though I had a Walkman and a disc player and new sources of good music. Nothing could replace the pleasure I had while listening to FM Rainbow anticipating the next song and praying for it to be one of my favorites.

Lookin' back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed.
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away.

And now I’m back in town for good ( no.. no.. don’t worry. I didn’t quit. Just completed my course :-p). Though it took me quite a long time to get acclimatized to the home atmosphere, the first habit I got back was to sit and listen to the good old radio for two whole hours everyday. It may not be the same frequency of FM, but it still means reliving a bit of my past. Sigh… Anyway,

All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry.

Just like before
It's yesterday once more.

Life is a vicious circle they say. Vicious or not is upto us but its definitely one big circle !! Cheers.
